We planned to take... read moreWe had already booked 2 nights Apr 26-28 in Tulip inn, Leiden center many months ago. We planned to take the early morning train from Brussels to Leiden on Apr 26, Friday. In later stage of planning, it seemed a bad idea to waste Apr 26 this way and arrive t Keukenhof either on weekend Saturday or try and rush to Keukenhof around noon after arrival. So we changed plans and decided to leave Brussels the evening of Apr 25 and reach Leiden a day early. No room was available at Tulip inn, so we booked one night Apr 25-26 at Ibis. Arrived at 9 pm and slept. Checked out at 7.30 next morning, kept our bags with them and took the first bus to Keukenhof at 8am. Turned out great and we had the gardens to ourselves for a couple of hours before crowds poured in.

Usually I associate train stations with slightly sketchier areas, but this wasn't bad. Easy to walk into the downtown area as well. Next to a supermarket in case you forgot anything/need to pick something up.
Room itself was on the small side. We only found 2 outlets, so would have appreciated some more. Only 1 trash can in the room, so kept having to walk into the bathroom to throw stuff out. Room was otherwise clean. Front desk staff friendly and welcoming. There is an elevator.
We had a rear facing room on the 5th floor and you could not hear trains or traffic at all. Very quiet. read less - 5/01/2018

The rail trains were the best we have ever experienced on our many travels.
Modern. fast, on time, often, and ticketing superb.
We had a room facing the station.
The bed was comfortable and the the air conditioning great.
It did not have a kettle for tea and coffee.
We even had to pay for a coffee when asked at reception.
This is not on and for paying guests this rule should be altered.
I see another reviewer says their room did have a kettle, so check when you arrive.
The staff were friendly.
Breakfast had a good variety, but is crowded when bus tours are staying.
Eating out was a breeze.
Our favourite was De la Soul. Small plates, amazingly good.

Couldn't think of a better place to saty when visiting Keukenhoff Gardens - the combined bus/entry ticket goes from Leiden in around 20 minutes.
The hotel has probably the best breakfast we have found in the Ibis chain.

For venturing out to the old town, it's probably a 15 minute walk to the best spots. We asked for a room on higher floors and were not disappointed, stunning view of the town from level 6. Room was spacious overall. Staff helpful and pleasant. Very late check in time of 3pm, would have loved a bit earlier.
