Hortus Botanicus
With its 12 museums, Leiden is the museum city of the Netherlands. Cultural activities will therefore not be lacking in this city! The Hortus Botanicus is the oldest botanical garden in the Netherlands. The oldest part of the Hortus is the current Front Garden.
The Front Garden was redesigned with plantings and a greenhouse structure: the Winter Garden. One of the oldest plants found in the Hortus Botanicus is the Golden Rain and Tulip Tree. Several important collections are maintained in the Hortus’ greenhouses, including carnivorous plants, tropical plants, orchids and the Victoria amazonica.
